2027 tryouts are early February. We strongly encourage signing up online — it saves us time day-of. Signing up at the door (day of) is also available. Exact gym and session times come when they are set; the 2027 fee is still unpublished.

Program Overview

Grades: 5th–11th (12th invite only) · Ages 11u–17u
Season: Early March through late May (some teams into the first week of June)
Teams: If needed, multiple teams form at each grade level, with placement by skill and experience (“A” and “B” teams when necessary)
Tournaments: 6 tournaments per team
Practices: Weekly team practices
Roster size: 8–10 players per team (never more than 10) for maximum development

Practices

Teams practice at least once per week. Exact days and times are set after teams are selected, to best fit athletes and facility availability.

Possible locations: Herkimer College, Herkimer High School, Borza Recreation Center, Elevate CNY. More locations coming next year.

Coaches

Each team (grades 5–9) is coached by a current or former college player, or a current college coach.

Coaches are assigned to one team only, so athletes receive their full attention.

Tournaments

Each team competes in six tournaments throughout the spring — consistent game experience in a competitive setting.

Not all teams play the same schedule, but all are guaranteed 6 tournaments.

Some of those weekends are played at home: MVE also hosts its own tournaments at Herkimer College.

Who will coach my child's team?

We are currently determining which grade level each coach will lead; final assignments will be announced soon. Each coach is a current or former college player or coach, with the exception of a few who are current high school coaches.

What does the registration fee go towards?

The full fee is applied toward tournament entry fees, practice facility costs, and coaching expenses. We operate as a not-for-profit organization.

How many players will be on each team?

Between 8 and 10 players per team to ensure maximum development for each athlete. No more than 10.

How far will we travel for tournaments?

Generally three local tournaments, two nearby (e.g., Albany or Syracuse), and one longer-distance or overnight tournament. For example, last season all teams traveled to Spooky Nook in Pennsylvania — one of the largest indoor sports complexes in the country.

If I played last season, is my spot guaranteed?

No. We have received more interest than ever for this upcoming season. If you'd like to play for us, please make sure you show up to your designated tryout session.
